Boater Safety for a Brighter Future
Boater Safety for a Brighter Future
Light the Way is a Connecticut-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing boating tragedies through education, advocacy, community partnerships, and practical safety initiatives.
Founded in memory of Ryan Britagna, Christopher Hallahan, and Ian following the tragic boating accident at the Saybrook Breakwater on September 2, 2024, Light the Way was established to honor their memory by promoting responsible boating, advocating for safer waterways, and helping ensure that more families return home safely from every day on the water.
Working alongside first responders, educators, public officials, boating organizations, volunteers, and community partners, we advance boating safety through education, public awareness, advocacy, and practical safety improvements.
Since our founding, Light the Way has made meaningful progress. Through persistent advocacy, we have helped improve navigational safety at the Saybrook Breakwater, supported additional safety improvements at locations across Connecticut, and advocated for stronger boating safety laws, including Connecticut's DUI–BUI reform. Together, these efforts are helping create safer waterways for everyone.
Every partnership, volunteer, sponsor, and donation helps create safer waterways for generations to come.
